Obituary — Gene A. Stokes

Gene Allen Stokes age 84 of Lenoir City passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at his home. He was born in Decatur, TN to James and Ollie Hampton Stokes. Gene was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of First Baptist Church in Lenoir City.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Earlene Stokes, his parents, and his siblings: brothers: Russell, Marvin, and Charlie Stokes; sisters: Reba Cordell, Mattie Bowman, Nettie Price, Joann Stokes, and Betty Dyer.

He is survived by his children and spouses: Sandy and Mike Shubert, Chris and Karen Stokes, Jenni and Darrin John; special friend Becky Sullivan; grandchildren: Michael (April) Shubert, Gracie (Corey) Allen, Madeline and Mia Kate Stokes, Kyra John, Breanna (James) White, and Stokes John; great grandchildren: Kazlie, Myla, and Makaylyn Shubert, Sophie and Zoey Allen, and Elijah White; brother and best friend, Leon Stokes, along with many nieces and nephews.

Dad was an electrical lineman for over 40 years and at the young age of 50, decided to open his own electrical contracting company, Tellico Electric. He was an antique car enthusiast, loved music and playing the guitar, but his greatest joy was his family. Especially his grandchildren and whatever sport or activity they were into. If they had a game or recital and you weren’t there, you were going to hear about how amazing they performed when he spoke with you.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Mose Premji, Dr. Daniel Ibach and staff, the staff at NHC Farragut, Samantha and Shane with Amedisys, and Candace and Rob with Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care. Obituary — Duie D. Swicegood

Duie Dallas Swicegood, age 94, of Harriman, TN passed away on the morning of May 31st, 2023. He was born in Harriman, Tennessee on March 3rd, 1929, to parents Elmer and Bessie Swicegood. Duie was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served from 1949 – 1952. During his service, he served on the submarines SS419-USS Tigrone and SS344-USS Cobbler. Duie retired from Y-12 and was also a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 760 where he was a lifetime member. He was a member of Southgate Masonic Lodge #569, the Knoxville Scottish Rite, and Kerbela Shriners where he was a member of the 100 Million Dollar Club. Duie enjoyed driving the go-carts for parades and during the Shrine Circus. He was preceded in death by parents Elmer Franklin Swicegood and Bessie Swicegood, brothers Clyde Swicegood and Norman Swicegood, sisters Violet Bowling and Iris Greene, children Carl Swicegood, Quintin Swicegood, and Tina Kay Scudder.

He is survived by his son Joe Swicegood, and grandchildren Candice Swicegood, Joshua Swicegood, Steven Swicegood, Cassie Swicegood, Hailey Swicegood and Eric Scudder, sister Ardy Farmer.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman. A Masonic Memorial Service will follow at 7:30 p.m. conducted by Southgate Masonic Lodge #569 F. & A.M. Funeral service will follow with Rev. Mason Goodman and Rev. Nancy Coleman officiating. Burial 12 Noon Saturday, June 10, 2023 at the Roane Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard. Obituary — Rick L. Mellon (TVA & Local 760)

Rick Lynn Mellon, age 69, met Jesus face to face on Thursday, June 1, 2023. He was a long-time member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. He worked as an electrician for over 30 years with over 20 of those years at TVA. He was a proud member of IBEW #760. His great-niece, Lillee, loved to tell everyone that he worked on the electrical wiring of Epcot theme park in Orlando, FL before its opening in the early 1980s. He was a fun-loving guy who loved all UT Sports, Nascar, and spending days in the summer sun. He was blessed to be a cancer survivor and loved his family fiercely. His greatest pride and joy was his great-niece, Lillian Marie. He enjoyed watching her sing, dance and perform. He joined his mother, Edna Mellon, for a happy heavenly reunion, only 11 days after her passing. He was preceded in death by parents, Elder and Edna Mellon. Survivors include sister, Terry Beeler & husband, Lee; aunt, Carle\a LaBroski; niece, Natalee Elkins & husband, Harvey; great-niece, Lillee Elkins; godsisters, Marie Occil, Gina May of Englewood, FL & son, Christopher, Lou Jamieson of Chapel Hill, NC & children, Jon Taylor & Anna; god-niece, Taylor Branson and many special loved ones. The family will receive friends 4-6 pm Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Wallace Memorial BapDst Church. Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 pm with Rev. Kent Williams, Rev. Jim McCluskey, and Rev. Obituary for Daniel C. Britton

Daniel Clifford Britton, age 34, of Maryville, Tennessee went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. He was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Ally, and the absolute greatest passion of his life was loving and doting on her. He was a dedicated son to his parents, and a friend to his siblings. Daniel enjoyed spending his time creating, playing, and listening to music, as well as fishing, spoiling Ally, playing and watching sports of all kinds, cheering on the VOLs, and time with his family.

Upon completion of his active duty commitment, Daniel came back home to Knoxville, TN where he started his civilian career and earned his bachelor’s degree from Tusculum University. Shortly afterwards, he entered into a 5 year Electrician Apprentice Program. Daniel was 4 years into that program at the time of passing.

Family will receive friends from 5:30 – 6:30 PM Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Southside Baptist Church, 1620 W Gov. John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville 37920, with a funeral service to follow at 6:30 PM, Pastor Gary Bohman officiating. Family and friends will meet at 8:15 AM for an 8:30 AM committal service Friday, June 2, 2023 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (John Sevier Highway).

 Obituary

Charles Eugene (Gene) Simcox met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 12, 2023. Charles was approaching his 97th birthday. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Mildred Marie Simcox, daughter Jo Ann Young, daughter-in-law Janet Simcox, sisters Naomi Hatmaker, Rose Goins, grandsons Kevin and Charley Simcox and a great grandson. Charles has been a devoted husband, father, and a Christian Spiritual example for his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife Phyllis LaFollette whom he married on April 14, 2016. Phyllis brought tremendous comfort and joy in his remaining years. He leaves behind sons Harold (Patsy), Neil (Rosemary), and Clay Young; in addition to Janet Hundley, Robert Clay, Clint and Joe LaFollette. Charles was blessed with many grandchildren; Angie Rabey, Shawna Hibben, Clay Thomas, Brian, and Samuel Young, Julia Hundley, Rebecca Stafford, and Erica, Olivia, and Anna LaFollette. In addition to 15 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Charles was a faithful servant to his Lord and held many leadership positions at Oakwood Baptist church in Knoxville and Rockford Baptist Church in Rockford. He retired from Tennessee Associated Electrical Co. as VP after 44 years. He has been honored as a 75 year member and officer of the IBEW Local 760 Credit Union. He proudly served in the Army with the engineering company in Korea and recently was recognized for his dedication. Charles will be buried with military honors on Sunday April 16, 2023. The family will receive friends from 11:30-1:30 at McCammon Ammons Click Funeral Home located at 220 W Broadway Ave., Maryville, TN 37801 with service immediately following. Graveside service will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery on Oak Grove Rd. Off exit 128 on I-75 in Lake City/Rocky Top, TN.

Rebecca A. Minnich (Bradshaw) 63 of Knoxville passed away on Wednesday January 25, 2023, surrounded by family. Becky, as she was known by everyone, never met a stranger. She always loved plants and flowers, and she filled her home like a garden. She loved spending time with her family, and everyone that knew her, loved her. She had the biggest heart and was a light in our lives. Becky was preceded in death by her parents, George and Patricia Bradshaw; husband, Jerry N. Minnich; son, William A. Minnich. She is survived by daughter and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Minnich and Jessica Daniels; bonus daughter and granddaughter, Kerryn and Olive Johns; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Patty Bradshaw; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Linda K. Horner, Kathy and Joe Johnson, and Wayne Minnich. Several nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom she loved dearly. We would like to especially thank the doctors and nurses in the UT Medical Center CVICU for their extraordinary devotion and care for our Becky and those who were there with her. The family will celebrate Becky’s life Saturday February 4, 2023 from 1-4 p.m. at Progression Electric, 2823 Thorngrove Pike. Pastor Craig Cummings officiating.
